Last night I was given the great honor of co-hosting a radio show in regards to a very special guest : Debra. I don’t know Debra, and I’m sure you do not know her either; she is a stranger…a woman needing a kidney. Now typically this radio show is a fun forum-type airing discussing everything from parapsychology to UFO’s and it is rarely serious but last night was a completely different story.
Coming into the show knowing that one of our own Sprint teammates, Bob Hicks, is asking for living donors for his wife and having had my grandfather saved by a living donor, I figured I was somewhat educated. I did however learn a ton about living donors and how important they are! There are hundreds of thousands of people waiting on a list…. a list that takes an average of 3-5 years to achieve that has tight stipulations and they need our help! I want to ask a few questions and make a few points - that is it, and share my most humbling experience of meeting Debra.

FAQ:
- 30% of donors whose dying wish is to donate their organs to someone in need NEVER have their wishes followed through. Even though you may be a registered donor and have your license or will mentioning this wish - a next of kin will be asked to confirm this wish upon your TOD. If your family, next of kin do not wish to donate your organs, your donation wish will be denied. This means, TELL YOUR FAMILY about your wish to be a donor and ask them to support and follow-through with the wish yo have made.
- You can donate skin graphs, plasma, blood, ANYTHING! If you are a little clammy about undergoing surgery to donate an organ such as a kidney then simply donate blood or hair to help. Encourage those around you to donate if possible and follow-through on the wishes of your loved ones.
- If you are a donor, the recipients insurance pays for the ENTIRE expense. The surgery for a kidney donor is literally 1-2 hours and you are back to a full (no pain at ALL) recovery in a maximum of 3 months and you spend no money… simply save a life.
